Lithuanian Samaritan organization (LSB) started its activity on 25 January 1992 - two years later after regaining Lithuania's independence. Great concern about the poverty of Lithuanian people and impersonalization that remained after the soviet occupation encouraged 47 people to gather into a group and to establish an organization that would work for the benefit of Lithuania‘s society. Lithuanian Samaritans chose a motto „Let‘s hurry to make good". Therefore in the Statute of the Organization they settled the following objectives:
  1. providing first aid and medical services for persons in trouble;
  2. first aid training;
  3. co-operation with other associations in all fields of guardianship and provision thereof to all people needing it;
  4. support for persons in misfortune;
  5. guardianship of and doling out to hospitals, care houses, asylums and their hostels, special kindergartens, board and lodging houses, etc.;
  6. support to special schools;
  7. support to individual disabled and elder persons;
  8. integration support to the disabled;
  9. establishment of hospitals, care houses, asylums, board and lodging houses, special kindergartens, training canters in the procedure defined by laws;
  10. establishment of funds and foundations;
  11. establishment of work opportunities according to the provisions of the LSB articles that meet the Statute of the European Union of Samaritans (Samaritan International).

While making its first steps LSB received much organizational, technical help and countenance from ASB Germany. In 1992 five branches of the LSB were established in Kaunas, Jurbarkas, Kelmė, Vilnius and Šiauliai. 25 branches in various towns of Lithuania were established during the period from 1993 till 2004 and the number of LSB members increased to 3000.  In 2004 the LSB was restructured to an association with 11 legal members. The rest of the local Samaritan organizations became subsidiaries of the LSB. The association is represented by its Board and the President. The guiding institution of the LSB is the general conference of LSB which takes place once every year. Since 1996 the LSB is the real member of the SAINT (Samaritan International) - an international organization that unify European Samaritan organizations and that implements European Union social programme. The LSB distinguishes for its voluntary work. The main live-force of the LSB is its Samaritan members who voluntarily work for the organization for thirteen years already. Ninety percent of work is done by these Samaritans without any salary. They donate their time, mind, skills and show great patience and altruism. These people- Samaritans- are the most precious treasure of the organization and their work is priceless.
